about the artist
Touching the lives of others through my art brings me a sense of peace that I can find nowhere else. Somewhere between my head and my hand, the feeling of a connection to the earth and the images in my art come alive. I have a love for nature and all that it represents - calm, peace, joy, beauty, change, and new life. I hope to channel these feelings into all who view my work.
My art reflects my experiences without being bound to particular mediums; it reflects my passion to create in the moment.
I am a visual artist, folk artist and photographer, running my own art business “Shakuntala Design Inc.” since 1974. I teach, do demonstration workshops, residency. I have participated in many art shows and art competitions. Art is my Life and passion. Teaching is satisfying and learning.
I started my journey in art with impermanent traditional Indian folk arts at a very young age. I loved to do my hands with henna, decorate fabrics with embroidery & my walls with paints. When I moved to the US, I studied both photography & graphic design.
My art now reflects a combination of my knowledge of folk art, photography and graphic design. Based on my ethnic background, colors, stylized designs, and story telling is evident in my work.
I have won numerous awards over the years in both paintings and photographs. I have shown my work in various galleries and participated in art shows throughout the Midwest, California, and India.
