Diya: A Journey Through Tradition

Yesterday, I completed and photographed the final artwork in my grant-supported series.

Titled Diya: A Journey Through Tradition, this piece is inspired by the light of the Diya and incorporates influences from Kalamkari, Madhubani, Mandana, and Gond art traditions. The spiral symbolizes light spreading outward, connecting knowledge, creativity, and cultural heritage.

Completing this artwork on the final day of the grant period feels especially meaningful. I am grateful for the opportunity to research, learn, create, teach, and share these beautiful traditions through this project.

I look forward to sharing this work, along with the full series, in my solo exhibition Ways of Life: Rooted in Tradition at White Bear Center for the Arts, White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
